French horns come in both single and double versions. Most students begin on a single horn and move up to a double horn after playing for a couple of years. Single horns also come in Bb and
F versions, with the F horn being more commonly used. Some teachers prefer a Bb horn, particularly for students who may be switching from cornet or trumpet to French horn.
